Whole Village Farm, Caledon, Ontario

Whole Village Farm has existed as an organic or natural vegetable farm for 8 years. We employ all-natural methods and some permaculture techniques in farming; but are not currently certified organic (although the land that we lease is under conservation easement regulations, prohibiting the use of non-organic methods of farming). The garden space is 2 acres, and we will be doing a 38 member CSA project as well as the Orangeville market. Although, we are not yet an official co-operative, we are organizing this year to be our pilot year for coming up with an official structure for our co-op. We are currently accepting applications for the following "Core Volunteer" positions for the 2011 season. Please forward to anyone who you think may be interested.

  • CSA/Market: Tuesday's, 1:30-7pm, Bathurst and Eglinton area, every other week until end of October
  • CSA/Market: Thursday's, 2-7:30pm, Bloor and Yonge area, every other week until end of October
  • FARM: Sunday's, 6:30am-3:30pm, weekly, for a minimum of 2 months
  • FARM: Monday's, 6:30am-3:30pm. , weekly, for a minimum of 2 months

Regarding the CSA/Market positions, you would be working closely with our CSA/Market Facilitators, which will include preparing veggies for display, and liaising with customers. Regarding the farm positions, you will be supporting all aspects of the farm, including harvesting, planting, weeding, etc. Both are great opportunities to connect with like-minded people in the community, do meaningful work, and leave with freshly-harvested, local, organic veggies!

Urban Farming Internship with The Cutting Veg

Do you want to learn to grow your own food, or take a step towards becoming a farmer? The Cutting Veg Organic Farm offers season-long, part-time farming internships, in which you can immerse yourself in the world of organic agriculture.
Located in Brampton, ˝ an hour from Toronto, this internship is ideal for people who are rooted in the city, yet ready to take a significant step into the world of veggie farming. Through farm work and discussion, Interns will be exposed to various aspects of organic agriculture, including plant propagation, plant care, soil preparation and health, pest-management, green-manuring, and planning & marketing.
As a potential Intern, you must be willing to commit two full days per week (on-farm from 6:30am-3:30pm) from the beginning of May to the end of October, and be excited to receive agricultural skills, knowledge, and organic veggies, in exchange for your labour. As this farm is not residential, no accommodation is available on-site.
