JOB POSTING – WASTE DIVERSION EDUCATOR
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, deliver and evaluate interactive and creative
educational programs and presentations related to Parks, Forestry and Recreation waste diversion initiatives and environmental sustainability through staff training, community outreach and programming at City of Toronto community centres, summer camps and parks
Regularly attend, deliver and promote Parks, Forestry and Recreation waste diversion initiatives at weekend events
Complete written evaluations/reports, research and other administrative duties
Develop partnerships with Parks, Forestry and Recreation staff and program participants, public, and community agencies
Perform other related work as assigned, including litter audits
Report to various work locations within the City of Toronto
Qualifications
Educational background in environmental studies/science or education and/or equivalent combination of experience
Knowledge of and experience in developing and delivering effective environmental education/recreation activities, presentations, staff training, community outreach
Proven ability to work with staff teams, youth, children and members of the public
Knowledge of the City of Toronto’s waste diversion programs
Excellent oral/written communication and public relations skills
Experience in working independently as well as in groups
Experience in conducting surveys and/or audits an asset
Ability to work outdoors in all weather
Ability to lift up to 12.5kg of material
Organizational, research, and program planning skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Ability to speak multiple languages an asset
Skills and experience in the arts an asset
You Must Also
Possess current Standard First Aid/CPR C certification
Possess a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License
Be willing work up to 40 hours/week
Be available to work weekends
Period of Employment
May to August: 35-40 hours/week; some additional hours in September/October may be available
Must be available to attend training session first 2 weeks in May Location
City-wide
