Scarborough Community Food Animator
The Stop Community Food Centre -- Part time - 6 month contract -- Scarborough Community Food Animator
The Community Food Animator (CFA) will work in Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) buildings in Scarborough, to be a resource to four community food projects that have been established with help from the Toronto Community Food Animators. Based out of the Stop Community Food Centre the CFA will work collaboratively as a member of the of the Community Food Animators Project team (which includes staff from the Afri-Can Food Basket, FoodShare Toronto, and The Stop).
This position is 22.5 hours per week and runs from March 1 to August 31, 2009. Salary is $20.26 per hour.
Responsibilities:
Work with tenants groups involved in community gardens, kitchens and markets in TCHC buildings in Scarborough, offering facilitation and/or direct organizing support, where appropriate
Work with Animator team to develop and deliver training to community food project coordinators
Work with Scarborough agencies to develop long-term approach to food animation in the community
Work with tenant groups to support their efforts to secure sustainable funding
Work with Animator team to continue to develop the Toronto Community Food Animators Program
Oversee project budget and disbursements
Participate in evaluation and report writing
Qualifications:
Two years or more experience in community development work
Knowledge of food security principles and programs
Cooking and gardening skills
Knowledge of Scarborough community and agencies
Solid communications and facilitation skills
Experience with inclusive training approaches
Experience working with diverse communities
