Custodians:
Seeds For Change
Volunteer Opportunities

Seeds For Change, a grass-roots organization, is implementing 3 pilot projects (1 school and 2 community gardens) in 2011 to grow healthier neighbourhoods through community and school gardens.

We created this organization to address many problems facing Canadians in the 21st century:

  • Obesity,
  • Diabetes,
  • reduced physical outdoor activity,
  • Nature Deficit Disorder,
  • Hunger and Food Security.

Our hands-on experiential programs will engage schools, local businesses and community members, providing educational opportunities for people to reconnect to nature and learn critical life skills. The pilot project for the garden at Firehall 71 will expand to include other Vaughan firehalls + the 8 additional municipalities in York Region. The 58 townhome community garden is an example of sustainable landscaping in high density areas. All will promote cross-cultural and intergenerational relationships encouraging volunteerism and giving back with a portion of the produce being given to those community members needing fresh nutritional food.

Seeds For Change has two volunteer opportunities:

.

We are looking for 1 or a small team of up to 3 Undergraduate or Graduate students to help us develop our organization. With approval from professors, we would like to offer them the opportunity to get credit for this project:.
